The Audio Research S-200 is the more powerful model in Audio Research’s S Series solid-state amplifier range, delivering 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 400 watts per channel into 4 ohms. It builds on the circuit architecture of the S-100 with larger power supplies and a higher-capacity output stage designed for greater current delivery and dynamic headroom.
 
The S-200 uses a pure Class A/B design with a true dual-mono platform. Two toroidal transformers independently supply the left and right channels, while the audio circuitry remains fully balanced from input to output. Audio Research selected bipolar transistors for the voltage and output stages, rather than MOSFETs, as part of the company's approach to transparency, dynamics and low distortion.
 
The fully balanced circuit is designed to minimize noise and interference while maintaining excellent channel separation. Balanced XLR and single-ended inputs are provided, with the input configuration selectable from the rear panel.
 
One of the most visible differences from the S-100 is the S-200's pair of front-panel power output meters. Their white-on-black presentation is inspired by the meters used in Audio Research's current Reference series amplifiers, giving the S-200 a distinctive visual identity while providing a real-time indication of amplifier output.
 
The chassis is machined aluminum with custom-machined heatsinks and a clean, modern interpretation of Audio Research's traditional styling. There are no visible fasteners on the front or top surfaces, and the amplifier is available in black or silver anodized finishes.
 
Like the other S Series amplifiers, the S-200 is produced at Audio Research's Minnesota facility. Each amplifier is measured and bench tested before being evaluated by ear.
