The Paradigm Premier 220B v2 is the larger of the two bookshelf speakers in the redesigned Premier v2 series. It combines a 1-inch AL-MAC ceramic dome tweeter with a 6-inch AL-MAG high-excursion mid/bass driver, along with Paradigm's OSW waveguide and PPA phase-alignment technology.
 
The 220B v2 is designed to provide the scale and dynamic capability of a larger bookshelf speaker while retaining the placement flexibility of a compact enclosure. Its 36Hz DIN low-frequency extension also makes it a strong option for two-channel systems where a subwoofer is not necessarily required.
 
AL-MAC Ceramic Dome Tweeter
The 1-inch AL-MAC tweeter combines aluminum, magnesium, and ceramic to create a rigid, lightweight diaphragm designed to control unwanted resonances. The tweeter is ferro-fluid damped and cooled for improved thermal performance.
Paradigm's Oblate Spheroid Waveguide (OSW) controls the tweeter's dispersion, while the Perforated Phase-Aligning (PPA) Lens helps improve phase alignment and reduce interference between the tweeter and mid/bass driver. The result is consistent response across a wider listening area rather than a narrowly focused sweet spot.
 
6-Inch AL-MAG Mid/Bass Driver
The 220B v2 uses a 6-inch AL-MAG cone constructed from aluminum and magnesium. The high-excursion driver is designed for fast, controlled response while providing substantially more bass capability than the smaller Premier 120B v2.
 
The driver incorporates Paradigm's Gen3 Active Ridge Technology (ART) surround and Vertical Mounting System (VMS). ART allows greater cone excursion than conventional surrounds, while VMS increases usable cone area within the cabinet. A 1-inch high-temperature multilayer voice coil and ventilated Apical former help the driver maintain control during demanding passages.
 
Rigid, Internally Braced Cabinet
The 220B v2 uses an MDF enclosure with internal bracing designed to minimize cabinet vibration and coloration. The ported cabinet allows the speaker to extend down to 36Hz DIN, giving the 220B v2 considerably more low-frequency output than its compact dimensions might suggest.
 
The speaker is available in Piano Black, Walnut, and Black Walnut finishes. The Walnut and Black Walnut versions use authentic real wood veneer over the MDF cabinet.
 
Wide Dispersion
The combination of the OSW waveguide and PPA Lens provides controlled dispersion and consistent tonal balance away from the central listening position. Paradigm specifies ±3dB response from 58Hz to 23kHz on-axis and from 58Hz to 20kHz at 30 degrees off-axis.
 
With 91dB room sensitivity and compatibility with 8-ohm amplification, the 220B v2 is relatively easy to drive and can work with a wide range of integrated amplifiers and power amplifiers.
