The AudioSolutions Figaro BL2 is a compact two-way bookshelf loudspeaker designed to deliver the same core technologies found throughout the second-generation Figaro series in a smaller enclosure. It combines a Mini-Horn loaded silk-dome tweeter with an Extended-Band mid-bass driver and AudioSolutions' Cabinet-in-a-Cabinet enclosure construction.
 
The BL2 is designed to be easy to integrate into a system, with 90.5dB sensitivity, a nominal 4-ohm impedance and a recommended amplifier range of 10–200 watts. Its compact size also makes it suitable for applications where a floorstanding speaker is not practical.
 
Extended-Band Mid-Bass Driver
The Figaro BL2 uses an 18.3cm ER paper-cone mid-bass driver that operates across a broad portion of the audible range. AudioSolutions refers to this as an Extended-Band driver because the crossover is pushed to 4000Hz rather than being placed closer to the particularly sensitive 1000–2000Hz region.
 
Keeping the crossover higher allows the mid-bass driver to reproduce more of the vocal and instrumental range on its own, reducing the number of crossover transitions through the area where the human ear is most sensitive.
 
The driver uses AudioSolutions' ER, or Extra Rigid, paper cone. Hard pulp and reinforcing fibers are incorporated into the paper to increase rigidity and encourage more piston-like movement while retaining the damping characteristics of a traditional paper cone.
 
Mini-Horn Loaded Tweeter
A 19mm silk-dome tweeter is mounted in AudioSolutions' Mini-Horn. The Mini-Horn uses acoustic impedance at the front of the dome to control its movement as output levels increase.
 
This approach is intended to reduce the cone breakup and nonlinear movement that can occur with soft-dome tweeters when driven at high levels. The Mini-Horn also increases tweeter efficiency, contributing to the BL2's 90.5dB sensitivity.
 
Cabinet-in-a-Cabinet
The BL2 uses AudioSolutions' Cabinet-in-a-Cabinet enclosure system, originally developed for the company's higher-end Virtuoso models.
 
The construction consists of an inner and outer enclosure bonded together with a thin layer of viscous polyurethane. The inner cabinet absorbs primary vibrations generated by the drivers, while the polyurethane layer converts vibrational energy into heat. The outer cabinet provides additional mass damping to further reduce residual vibration.
 
This multi-layer approach is intended to minimize cabinet resonance and provide a more stable enclosure for the drivers.
 
Design and Finishes
The BL2 has a compact 400mm-tall enclosure and can be used on a suitable speaker stand or shelf. The design incorporates AudioSolutions' distinctive sculpted cabinet shape along with the newer satin finishes and brass metal accents introduced with the second-generation Figaro series.
 
Three standard high-gloss finishes are offered—Pearl White, Zinc Grey and Dark Grey—along with bespoke satin finishes. AudioSolutions also offers its Exclusive Personalisation program for custom colors and one-of-a-kind configurations.
