The AudioSolutions Virtuoso B is a three-way standmount loudspeaker that brings the core technologies of the Virtuoso series into a more compact enclosure. It was developed using technology from AudioSolutions’ Vantage 5th Anniversary range and sits between the Figaro and Vantage families.
 
Unlike a conventional two-way bookshelf speaker, the Virtuoso B uses a dedicated down-firing bass driver, an extended-band midrange and a silk-dome tweeter. The result is a three-way design capable of reaching down to 30Hz while maintaining the extended midrange approach used throughout the Virtuoso series.
 
The cabinet incorporates AudioSolutions’ Box-in-a-Box construction, multi-layer walls, extensive internal bracing and self-locking construction. The speaker can be used on its own or with the dedicated Virtuoso B stand.
 
Three-Way Driver Configuration
The Virtuoso B uses a 3cm silk-dome tweeter, a 16.5cm Hard Pulp paper-cone midrange and a 19cm Hard Pulp paper-cone bass driver mounted on the bottom of the cabinet.
 
The down-firing woofer operates below 500Hz, while the midrange covers an unusually wide 500Hz–7000Hz range. This leaves the tweeter to handle frequencies above 7kHz.
 
The separate midrange and bass chambers allow each driver to operate in an enclosure optimized for its respective frequency range. The bass driver works with the speaker's bass-reflex system to extend low-frequency response.
 
Extended-Band Midrange
AudioSolutions uses an extended-band midrange throughout the Virtuoso series. The 16.5cm midrange covers 500Hz to 7000Hz, almost four octaves of the most important musical information.
 
The crossover points are positioned outside the particularly sensitive 1000–2000Hz region of human hearing. Keeping the midrange in a single driver through this region helps minimize the tonal differences and phase interaction that can occur when two drivers share this portion of the spectrum.
 
Adjustable Harmonics Crossover
The Virtuoso B features AudioSolutions’ Adjustable Harmonics Crossover, which incorporates three different crossover configurations into the speaker.
The system is not a conventional level adjustment or tone control. Instead, it uses different crossover characteristics to alter the way the drivers interact and provides three different listening profiles.
 
Balanced – the standard setting, balancing clarity and soundstage
Moderate – a more relaxed presentation intended for longer listening sessions
Enhanced – emphasizes fine detail and is particularly useful for quiet listening
 
Box-in-a-Box Cabinet
The Virtuoso B uses a true Box-in-a-Box enclosure. A heavily braced internal skeleton provides rigidity and controls the primary vibrations generated by the drivers.
 
The skeleton is enclosed by a lightweight inner cabinet with low inertia, while a denser outer cabinet is added over the inner structure. The two cabinet layers work together to dissipate mechanical energy and suppress high-Q resonances.
AudioSolutions also uses specially engineered corner joints and cabinet geometry to increase structural rigidity.
 
Multi-Layer Cabinet Construction
The cabinet uses materials with different thicknesses and densities, giving each layer different resonant characteristics. This allows mechanical energy to be distributed through the structure rather than concentrated at a single resonance.
A thin polyurethane adhesive layer between the cabinet materials further absorbs mechanical energy. The varying thickness of the cabinet walls, front baffle and rear section also contributes to differential vibration damping.
 
Down-Firing Bass Driver
The 19cm Hard Pulp bass driver fires downward into the space beneath the cabinet. This allows the Virtuoso B to produce substantial low-frequency output from a relatively compact enclosure while keeping the front of the cabinet dedicated to the midrange and tweeter.
 
The dedicated stand raises the speaker to the intended listening height while maintaining the down-firing bass arrangement.
