The MQ-88uC is a vacuum tube power amplifier that embodies ambition.

Its dark brown finish gives it a modern classical appearance reminiscent of Luxman's finest legacy products. The improved clarity and warm, accurate audio reproduction unique to vacuum tube products, along with the quality of its components and engineering, set this model apart. Luxman believes that the integration of new technology and customization options will make this model a highly sought-after modern day vacuum tube amplifier.

Luxman has a rich history of producing vacuum tube amplifiers, having launched the SQ-5A vacuum tube integrated amplifier in 1961. Since then, the company has continued to produce many highly valued models that have stood the test of time, satisfying music lovers for several decades. The CL-38uC and MQ-88uC embody Luxman's long legacy of producing top-quality vacuum tube products, as well as the traditional wisdom and skills the company has acquired over the years.

The quality of individual components greatly affects the performance of vacuum tube amplifiers, and so Luxman uses only the highest quality components, including its own transformers and blocking capacitors. The company has also introduced Nichicon made, high voltage, metalized polypropylene film coupling capacitors for their supple, natural tone. Shortening the internal wiring has also contributed to improved audio quality.

The exterior design of the CL-38uC control amplifier and the MQ-88uC power amplifier is inspired by the classic designs of vacuum tube audio products from the golden era. The CL-38uC is modeled after the CL-35 released in 1970, while the MQ-88uC is based on the MQ-60 released in 1969. The classic front panel design features beautiful and functional knobs and lever switches that add a touch of nostalgia to these contemporary, high-performance audio products.

To ensure reliability and longevity, each CL-38uC control amplifier and MQ-88uC power amplifier undergoes a final performance check after a 48-hour aging process following assembly. Luxman has chosen JJ Electronic (Slovakia) vacuum tubes for these models because of their reputation for reliability, long life, and ease of operation.

The KT-88 output tubes used in the MQ-88uC, made by JJ Electronic, are known for their power and rich sound quality. The triode configuration employed provides longer vacuum tube life and a transparent timbre that is a hallmark of vacuum tube amps. The paralleled first stage feeds a driver stage with performance-proven Mullard circuitry, and the final stage employs a Mullard-compatible push-pull configuration for an output power of 25 watts per channel at 4, 8, and 16 ohms with low distortion. The MQ-88uC also has independent 4, 8, and 16 ohm speaker terminals for optimal performance with any type of speaker.

The output transformers and power supply play a crucial role in the sound quality and performance of a vacuum tube amp. Luxman's classic amplifier products feature OY15 type output transformers with die-cast aluminum housings, which have been redesigned and reproduced with the original shape. The power supply section features a highly stable El type power transformer in tandem with custom-designed blocking capacitors for steadfast sound quality and excellent drivability.

Finally, the main chassis of the MQ-88uC has a dark brown finish, different from the black finish of the MQ-88u, which better complements Luxman's products with wooden exterior cases. The hairline-finished aluminum top panel and matt black aluminum die-cast power transformer housings are a harmonious match, reflecting Luxman's commitment to fine quality and beauty in its designs
