The Paradigm Essentials Sub 12 is a compact sealed powered subwoofer designed to add substantial low-frequency output to both music and home theater systems. Its 12-inch high-excursion carbon-loaded polypropylene driver is housed in a reinforced MDF cabinet and powered by a Class-D amplifier rated at 350 watts continuous and 700 watts peak.
 
The sealed cabinet provides a controlled, forward-firing design that makes the Sub 12 easy to integrate into a wide range of systems. The 12-inch driver uses a carbon-loaded polypropylene cone mounted in a stamped steel basket, combining high excursion with the rigidity needed for clean bass reproduction.
Paradigm uses a 56-bit high-resolution DSP engine to manage the subwoofer's response and amplifier operation. Auto-on/off functionality and improved soft-clipping circuitry help the amplifier handle demanding program material while maintaining controlled operation.
 
The Essentials Sub 12 has a rated frequency response of 19Hz to 200Hz ±3dB, with a low-frequency extension of 17Hz according to the DIN standard. The variable low-pass filter can be adjusted from 40Hz to 120Hz or bypassed when the subwoofer is being controlled by an external processor or receiver. A 0°–180° phase control provides additional flexibility when integrating the subwoofer with the main speakers.
 
Connection is straightforward, with stereo RCA line-level inputs that also accommodate an LFE connection. The Sub 12 is compatible with Paradigm's optional Subwoofer Wireless Kit, allowing it to receive the audio signal wirelessly and providing greater flexibility when positioning the subwoofer in the room.
With its sealed enclosure, 12-inch high-excursion driver, substantial amplifier power and compact footprint, the Essentials Sub 12 offers a practical way to add deep bass without moving to the larger cabinet sizes of Paradigm's higher-performance subwoofer lines.
