The Paradigm Defiance S10 is a compact sealed subwoofer designed to deliver deep, controlled bass from a relatively small enclosure. It combines a 10-inch high-excursion S-PAL pure aluminum driver with a 500-watt continuous Ultra Class-D amplifier, 64-bit DSP, built-in wireless connectivity and compatibility with Anthem Room Correction.
The S10 uses Paradigm's satin-anodized pure aluminum bass driver in a sealed enclosure. The rigid aluminum cone and high-excursion design allow the driver to produce substantial output while maintaining control at high levels. The sealed cabinet also makes the S10 easy to position in rooms where a larger ported subwoofer would be difficult to accommodate.
Its Ultra Class-D amplifier is rated at 500 watts continuous and 1,000 watts peak. A 64-bit high-resolution DSP engine manages the subwoofer's signal processing, while the Paradigm Subwoofer Control App provides convenient adjustment from a smartphone.
The S10 is ARC Genesis ready, allowing Anthem Room Correction to be used for more precise integration with the listening room. ARC Genesis is sold separately. The correction system can account for the room's acoustic response and help optimize the subwoofer's output at the listening position.
Wireless connectivity is built into the S10, and Paradigm includes the wireless transmitter. This makes it possible to place the subwoofer where it provides the best bass response without having to run a long signal cable from the receiver, processor or stereo system.
The rear panel provides an illuminated level control, tone sweep function, selectable power modes and a 12V trigger. Integrated anti-vibration feet help stabilize the cabinet, with carpet spikes included for installations on carpet.
With a rated low-frequency extension of 18Hz DIN, the Defiance S10 offers substantial deep-bass capability in a cabinet measuring less than 15 inches in every dimension. It is equally suited to two-channel music systems and home theater, particularly where a compact sealed subwoofer with wireless and room-correction capabilities is preferred.
