The Audeze LCD-2 is one of the headphones that established Audeze as a major name in planar magnetic audio. Originally introduced in 2009, the LCD-2 has continued to evolve while retaining the warm, full-bodied presentation and deep bass that made the model a reference among high-end headphone listeners.
The current LCD-2 uses Audeze's 106mm planar magnetic drivers with a dual-sided staggered magnet array and Fazor waveguides. The planar diaphragm provides fast transient response and low distortion, while the Fazor system is designed to improve phase behavior and imaging around the driver.
 
The LCD-2 is tuned for a warm, rich presentation with particularly strong low-frequency performance. The midrange has a natural, slightly relaxed character, while the extended treble provides plenty of detail without changing the overall smooth character of the headphone. Its combination of bass extension, tonal weight and spacious presentation makes it well suited to long-form music listening.
 
Audeze has also updated the physical design over the years. The current LCD-2 features hand-finished Padauk wood rings, a ventilated suspension headband and updated earpads for improved comfort. Despite its substantial construction, the suspension headband helps distribute the weight across the top of the head.
The LCD-2 is still handcrafted in Audeze's Southern California workshop. Each pair combines the company's planar magnetic technology with traditional wood craftsmanship, giving the headphone a distinctive appearance as well as its characteristic sound.
