The Marantz SACD 10 is the flagship reference SACD and CD player in the Marantz lineup, built around the company's proprietary SACDM-3 disc transport, next-generation HDAM circuitry and updated Marantz Musical Mastering technology. It is designed as both a high-end disc player and a reference-quality DAC for external digital sources, with USB-A and USB-B inputs supporting PCM up to 384kHz/32-bit and DSD up to 11.2MHz.
The SACD 10 uses a substantial triple-layer copper-plated chassis, isolated internal sub-enclosures, dual toroidal power supplies and a fully discrete headphone amplifier. Balanced XLR and single-ended RCA outputs allow it to connect directly to a high-end preamplifier or integrated amplifier.
SACDM-3 Reference Disc Transport
At the heart of the SACD 10 is Marantz's proprietary SACDM-3 transport mechanism. The transport was developed specifically for the 10 Series and is housed within a rigid chassis structure designed to minimize the effects of mechanical vibration and resonance.
The SACDM-3 supports both Super Audio CD and conventional CD playback. Its construction and mounting are intended to provide a stable platform for the optical pickup and disc mechanism, while Marantz's master clock architecture provides precise timing for disc playback.
Marantz Musical Mastering
The SACD 10 uses the latest version of Marantz Musical Mastering, including MMM-Conversion and MMM-Stream processing. Instead of relying on a conventional off-the-shelf DAC architecture, the MMM system handles digital conversion and processing within Marantz's own design.
Users can select between two digital filters, while adjustable dither and noise-shaper settings provide additional control over the MMM-Stream processing. Dither can be set to Dither 1, Dither 2 or Off, while the noise shaper offers Balanced, Natural, Dynamic Music and Dynamic Voice settings.
USB DAC and High-Resolution Audio
The SACD 10 functions as a standalone high-resolution DAC for external digital sources. USB-B provides asynchronous computer audio playback, while USB-A supports compatible digital audio sources and storage devices.
PCM is supported up to 384kHz/32-bit and DSD up to 11.2MHz (DSD256). The USB-B input incorporates complete electrical isolation, helping separate the computer connection from the SACD 10's sensitive audio circuitry.
Optical and coaxial digital inputs are also provided for external digital sources, with support up to 192kHz.
New HDAM and Fully Discrete Analog Output
Marantz uses a new-generation HDAM output circuit in the SACD 10. The analog output stage is fully discrete and available through both RCA and balanced XLR connections.
The player provides 2.0Vrms from its RCA outputs and 4.0Vrms from the balanced XLR outputs when playing CD material. Separate left and right output terminals use thick nickel-plated machined copper construction.
Dual Toroidal Power Supplies
The SACD 10 uses dual power supplies with toroidal transformers. Separate power-supply sections help isolate the digital, analog and transport circuitry from one another.
The power supplies are housed within the same rigid chassis structure as the audio circuits, with isolated sub-enclosures and multilayer PCBs used throughout the player.
Discrete Headphone Amplifier
A dedicated discrete headphone amplifier provides 130mW into 32 ohms and includes Low, Mid and High gain settings. The headphone circuit is designed to accommodate a broad range of headphone impedances and sensitivity levels.
The main analog outputs can automatically be switched off when headphones are connected, allowing the SACD 10 to function as a dedicated headphone source without manually changing output settings.
Reference Construction
The SACD 10 uses a triple-layer copper-plated bottom chassis with an aluminum outer structure. The center front panel is aluminum, the side covers are up to 15.8mm thick, and the top cover is 12mm thick.
Solid aluminum feet with copper construction support the chassis, while the front panel features dimmable illumination and an OLED display. The result is a substantial 33kg component designed to provide mechanical stability as well as electrical isolation.
