The AudioSolutions Figaro C2 is a compact two-way center-channel loudspeaker designed as part of the second-generation Figaro series. It uses the same driver technologies and cabinet construction found throughout the Figaro range, giving it a consistent design approach for systems built around Figaro speakers.
The C2 combines a Mini-Horn loaded silk-dome tweeter with two ER paper-cone mid-bass drivers. Its 91dB sensitivity and 4-ohm nominal impedance make it relatively easy to match with a wide range of amplifiers and AV electronics.
Two-Way Driver Design
The Figaro C2 uses a 19mm silk-dome tweeter flanked by two 15.2cm ER paper-cone mid-bass drivers. The crossover is set at 4000Hz, allowing the mid-bass drivers to operate over a broad portion of the vocal range.
AudioSolutions' Extended-Band approach moves the crossover away from the 1000–1500Hz region where human hearing is particularly sensitive. The company designed this approach to reduce the audibility of crossover distortion and phase shifts while maintaining a more continuous presentation through the midrange.
Mini-Horn Loaded Tweeter
The 19mm silk-dome tweeter uses AudioSolutions' Mini-Horn loading technology. The horn creates acoustic impedance in front of the dome, helping control its movement as the signal level increases.
This is intended to reduce the cone breakup and nonlinear movement associated with soft-dome tweeters when driven at high output levels. The Mini-Horn also increases tweeter efficiency.
ER Paper Cone Mid-Bass Drivers
The two 15.2cm mid-bass drivers use AudioSolutions' ER, or Extra Rigid, paper-cone construction. The cones incorporate hard pulp and reinforcing fibers to increase rigidity while maintaining the damping properties of paper.
The design aims to combine the controlled piston-like movement of a more rigid cone with the natural damping of paper, reducing the potential for early breakup and ringing.
Cabinet-in-a-Cabinet
The Figaro C2 incorporates AudioSolutions' Cabinet-in-a-Cabinet enclosure system, adapted from the company's higher-end Virtuoso series.
The enclosure consists of separate inner and outer cabinets bonded with a thin layer of viscous polyurethane. The inner cabinet absorbs primary vibrations from the drivers, while the polyurethane layer converts vibrational energy into heat. The heavier outer cabinet then provides additional mass damping.
This construction is designed to suppress unwanted cabinet resonance and provide a more controlled enclosure for the drivers.
Center-Channel Design
The C2 is specifically designed for center-channel applications, with a wide 607mm cabinet that accommodates its symmetrical driver arrangement. Height-adjustable feet are provided for leveling, while WBT NextGen terminals provide the speaker connection.
Like the rest of the second-generation Figaro range, the C2 is available in a selection of satin finishes with brass accents, along with AudioSolutions' Exclusive Personalisation program for custom colors and configurations.
