The AudioSolutions Virtuoso L is the largest model in the Virtuoso series, incorporating many of the technologies originally developed for AudioSolutions’ Vantage 5th Anniversary flagship range. It sits between the Figaro and Vantage lines and uses the same core Virtuoso architecture as the smaller models, scaled up with larger drivers, a substantially larger enclosure and significantly greater power handling.
The Virtuoso L is a three-way design using a 3cm silk-dome tweeter, a 19cm extended-band midrange and two 24.2cm Hard Pulp paper-cone bass drivers. The crossover points are set at 500Hz and 6.5kHz, allowing the midrange to cover almost four octaves while avoiding a crossover through the particularly sensitive 1–2kHz region.
Three-Way Driver Configuration
The Virtuoso L combines a 3cm silk-dome tweeter with a 19cm Hard Pulp paper-cone midrange and two 24.2cm Hard Pulp bass drivers.
The large midrange operates from 500Hz to 6500Hz. AudioSolutions deliberately keeps the midrange crossover points away from the 1000–2000Hz region, where the human ear is especially sensitive to tonal differences between drivers.
The two 24.2cm bass drivers provide considerably greater radiating area than the smaller Virtuoso models, giving the Virtuoso L the scale and low-frequency capability expected from the largest speaker in the range.
Adjustable Harmonics Crossover
The Virtuoso L incorporates AudioSolutions’ Adjustable Harmonics Crossover, which provides three different crossover configurations within the same speaker.
Rather than simply changing the relative volume of individual drivers, the system changes crossover frequencies and slope characteristics. This alters how each driver's natural harmonic and distortion characteristics contribute to the overall presentation.
Three listening profiles are available:
- Balanced – the standard setting, balancing musical clarity and soundstage
- Moderate – intended for prolonged listening with a less dramatic presentation
- Enhanced – emphasizes low-level detail and is particularly suited to quieter listening environments
The three settings provide different listening characteristics without functioning as conventional tone controls or changing the overall SPL of the speaker.
Box-in-a-Box Cabinet
The Virtuoso L uses AudioSolutions’ Box-in-a-Box enclosure construction.
A heavily braced internal skeleton provides the primary structural support and controls vibrations generated by the drivers. This structure is covered with lightweight material to create an inner cabinet with low inertia and limited energy storage.
A denser outer cabinet is then fitted over the inner structure. The outer and inner cabinets work together to dissipate cabinet energy and suppress high-Q resonances.
AudioSolutions also uses specially calculated corner joints and cabinet geometry to increase structural rigidity. The resulting enclosure is intended to combine the stiffness of rigid composite or aluminum constructions with better control of high-frequency cabinet ringing.
Multi-Layer Cabinet Construction
The Virtuoso L uses cabinet walls made from materials of different thicknesses and densities. Each layer has its own resonant characteristics, allowing mechanical energy to be distributed and dissipated rather than concentrated at a single resonance.
A thin 0.1–0.15mm polyurethane adhesive layer between cabinet materials absorbs mechanical energy and converts it into heat. The thickness of the sidewalls, front baffle and rear section also varies across the cabinet, creating additional differential vibration damping.
The curved exterior is therefore part of the cabinet engineering rather than simply a cosmetic treatment.
Extended-Band Midrange
One of the defining features of the Virtuoso L is its extended-band midrange.
The 19cm midrange driver operates from 500Hz to 6500Hz, covering almost four octaves of the musical spectrum. This keeps vocals, much of the fundamental range of acoustic instruments and a large portion of their harmonic information within a single driver.
AudioSolutions designed this approach to avoid crossing the midrange and tweeter through the 1000–2000Hz region, where hearing is particularly sensitive to differences between drivers.
Mini-Horn Loaded Tweeter
The 3cm silk-dome tweeter uses AudioSolutions’ mini-horn loading. The horn structure controls the tweeter's acoustic output and dispersion while providing a controlled transition into the upper midrange.
High Sensitivity and Power Handling
The Virtuoso L has a sensitivity of 92dB at 2.83V/1m and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. With 360W RMS nominal power handling and 720W maximum unclipped power handling, it is designed for substantial amplifier power and high-level playback.
The combination of high sensitivity, large bass drivers and a large enclosure gives the Virtuoso L the ability to produce considerably greater scale and dynamic output than the smaller Virtuoso models.
