The Marantz AMP 20 is a 12-channel power amplifier designed for high-performance home theater systems that require substantial power across multiple channels. It delivers 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms and up to 400 watts per channel into 4 ohms, combining Marantz's HDAM-SA2 circuitry with custom Class D amplification.
 
With 12 independent amplifier channels in a single chassis, the AMP 20 is well suited to large multichannel systems and can be paired with the Marantz AV 20 or other high-end AV processors. Its flexible configuration also allows for bi-amping and BTL operation when additional power is required for selected channels.
 
12 Channels of Class D Power
Each of the AMP 20's 12 amplifier channels is rated at 200 watts into 8 ohms. In BTL mode, two amplifier channels can be combined to produce 400 watts into 8 ohms. The amplifier can also deliver 400 watts into 4 ohms in normal operation.
Marantz uses custom-developed switching amplifier modules designed specifically for the AMP 20. The Class D architecture provides high power output and efficiency while allowing 12 channels of amplification to fit into a single chassis.
 
HDAM-SA2 Circuitry
The AMP 20 incorporates Marantz's proprietary HDAM-SA2 technology alongside its custom Class D amplifier stages. Marantz Sound Master tuning and carefully selected components are used throughout the signal path.
 
The amplifier is designed to maintain consistent performance as multiple channels are driven simultaneously, making it suitable for complex home theater systems with demanding speaker loads.
 
Flexible System Configuration
The AMP 20 supports Normal, Bi-Amp, and BTL operating modes. Bi-amping allows separate amplifier channels to power the high- and low-frequency sections of compatible speakers, while BTL mode combines two amplifier channels for higher output.
 
Twelve balanced and unbalanced amplifier inputs are provided, selectable through the input configuration switch. Twelve SPKT-1+ speaker terminals provide dedicated connections for all amplifier channels.
 
For custom installations, the AMP 20 includes RS-232 control, an IR flasher input, Marantz Remote Bus, and 12V DC trigger input and output. A front-panel level meter provides a visual indication of amplifier operation.
 
Marantz Construction
The AMP 20 features a copper-plated chassis and metal front panel, along with Marantz's distinctive porthole-style level meter. The amplifier is crafted in Shirakawa, Japan.
 
At 17.4 inches wide and 7.5 inches high, the AMP 20 provides 12 channels of amplification in a relatively compact enclosure, making it well suited to dedicated home theater and custom installation applications.
