The Marantz MODEL M4 is an eight-channel, four-zone distribution amplifier designed for high-performance whole-home audio. Each of its four zones has a dedicated HEOS module, allowing different music to be played independently in each room or multiple zones to be grouped together.
 
With 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 125 watts per channel into 4 ohms, the MODEL M4 can drive four pairs of speakers simultaneously. Bridge Mode increases available power to as much as 200 watts for each of the four zones, making it suitable for higher-demand speaker installations.
 
The MODEL M4 is rack-mountable and combines network streaming, local digital and analog inputs, USB playback, optical TV connections, subwoofer integration and custom-installation control in a single chassis.
 
Four-Zone HEOS Streaming
Each zone has its own HEOS module, allowing the MODEL M4 to function as four independent streaming amplifiers. Music can be played separately in each room, or zones can be grouped for synchronized playback throughout the home.
HEOS provides access to services including TIDAL, Qobuz, Spotify, Amazon Music, Pandora, Deezer, SiriusXM, TuneIn and other supported services. Spotify Connect and AirPlay 2 provide additional ways to send music directly to the amplifier.
 
The MODEL M4 is also Roon Ready and supports high-resolution network playback from compatible network storage and streaming sources.
 
Eight Channels of Amplification
The MODEL M4 provides eight channels of amplification, with each channel rated at 100 watts into 8 ohms. At 4 ohms, output increases to 125 watts per channel.
The channels can be configured for conventional stereo operation or Dual Mono. Bridge Mode combines amplifier channels to provide up to 200 watts per zone, giving installers additional flexibility when matching the amplifier to different speaker systems.
 
The amplifier accepts speakers from 4 to 16 ohms and uses four-way binding posts for each channel.
 
Four Independent Zones
Each zone has its own volume, balance, EQ and source controls. Four RCA preamp outputs and four selectable mono subwoofer outputs provide additional flexibility for connecting external amplification or powered subwoofers.
The subwoofer outputs can be configured with adjustable high-pass and low-pass filters. High-pass filtering is adjustable from 40Hz to 250Hz, while low-pass filtering can be set from 40Hz to 120Hz.
 
A dedicated 12V trigger output is provided for each zone.
 
TV Audio and Dolby Digital
Two optical digital inputs allow TV audio and other digital sources to be distributed through the system. Dolby Digital and LPCM decoding are supported, making the MODEL M4 suitable for integrating television audio into a whole-home audio installation.
 
TV Sound Grouping allows compatible television audio to be synchronized with other HEOS zones.
 
High-Resolution Audio
The MODEL M4 supports PCM audio up to 24-bit/192kHz and DSD playback at 2.8MHz and 5.6MHz. USB storage devices can be connected directly to any of the four USB ports, while network shares provide access to locally stored music.
 
Marantz Musical Digital Filtering (MMDF) is used in the digital signal path, with the filtering system designed to preserve detail and tonal character from high-resolution sources.
 
Custom Installation Features
The MODEL M4 is designed specifically for integration into professionally installed systems. Dual Ethernet ports provide wired network connectivity, while TCP/IP control is supported through Control4, Crestron and AMX.
 
Four 12V trigger outputs, one per zone, can control compatible external equipment. The unit is designed for rack installation and includes a rack kit, with active cooling for reliable operation in an installation environment.
