The AudioSolutions Figaro XLM2 is the largest model in the second-generation Figaro series, combining a three-way driver layout with a substantial six-driver bass section. It is designed around the same core ideas found in AudioSolutions’ higher-end models: a Mini-Horn loaded silk-dome tweeter, an Extended-Band midrange, rigid ER paper-cone bass drivers, and a Cabinet-in-a-Cabinet enclosure designed to control cabinet vibration.
The XLM2 is a relatively narrow floorstanding speaker at just 272mm wide, but stands 1710mm tall and incorporates four 18.3cm bass drivers. With 92dB sensitivity and an 8-ohm nominal impedance, it is also designed to work with a broad range of amplifiers, with AudioSolutions recommending anywhere from 20 to 700 watts.
Extended-Band Midrange
The two 15.2cm ER paper-cone midrange drivers cover the critical vocal and instrumental range from 400Hz to 4kHz. AudioSolutions deliberately places the crossover points outside the 1–2kHz region where human hearing is particularly sensitive to distortion and phase changes.
By allowing the midrange drivers to cover this broad section of the spectrum, the XLM2 minimizes the number of crossover transitions through the most sensitive part of human hearing.
Mini-Horn Loaded Tweeter
A 19mm silk-dome tweeter is mounted in AudioSolutions' Mini-Horn. The horn uses acoustic impedance to help control dome movement at higher output levels while also increasing the tweeter's efficiency.
The Mini-Horn is designed to address the distortion and nonlinear movement that can occur with soft-dome tweeters when driven hard, while maintaining the smoother character associated with a silk dome.
ER Paper Cone Bass Drivers
Four 18.3cm bass drivers use AudioSolutions' ER, or Extra Rigid, paper cone construction. The cones combine traditional paper with hard pulp and reinforcing fibers to increase rigidity and piston-like behavior without the early breakup and ringing that can occur with some rigid cone materials.
The result is a bass system designed for both speed and depth while maintaining consistent integration with the extended-band midrange.
Cabinet-in-a-Cabinet
The XLM2 uses AudioSolutions' Cabinet-in-a-Cabinet construction, adapted from the company's Virtuoso range. An inner cabinet and heavier outer cabinet are bonded together with a thin layer of viscous polyurethane.
The inner enclosure absorbs primary cabinet vibrations, the polyurethane layer converts vibrational energy into heat, and the outer cabinet provides additional mass damping. The enclosure also uses non-parallel surfaces to help reduce internal standing waves.
Setup and Connections
The XLM2 includes height-adjustable outriggers with spikes for leveling and coupling the speaker to the floor. WBT NextGen terminals are used for the speaker connections, with bi-amping supported on the XL models.
AudioSolutions also offers extensive finish customization through its Exclusive Personalization program, allowing the cabinet, trim and other details to be configured beyond the standard finishes.
